Lessons Learned
The goals of this class were many. It was to
a. expose you to the basics of entrepreneurship, discuss business concepts in the context of entrepreneurial organizations and share my own experience working for one.
b. help you apply these concepts to explore the different facets of starting a business, and the assumptions that we make in doing so, using your creativity, imagination and critical thinking skills.
c. develop your writing skills as you work on the individual assignments, and discussion questions.
Perhaps this class was different from other classes, perhaps it was not. Personally, I very much enjoyed reading about your ideas related to your term projects and having a class that was interested and thoughtful. I would like for you to provide me feedback on the extent to which the objectives that I had for this class were met. Your feedback does not have to be positive simply because I am grading this. I will very much appreciate thoughtful, detailed comments whether positive or negative. Please discuss under the following heads:
1. Concepts of Entrepreneurship: What are the five most important concepts of entrepreneurship that you learned in this class that you did not know before. You should write a paragraph about each concept. Which concepts would you like to know more about? Why? Which do you feel we could have done without? Why? [Note: Concepts are vocabulary terms that are highlighted in bold in the textbook]
2. Relevance of The Pitch: Did you feel that working on a pitch was a useful way to integrate the different concepts of entrepreneurship? Did working on each of the components exercise your imagination? Your critical thinking ability? In what way?
3. Writing Skills: Did you feel this course required more writing than other courses? Did the assignments strengthen your writing abilities? Did you get enough feedback on your writing? How useful were your peer’s feedback?
4. Research: Was the research requirements in this class more or less than you have to do at other classes at BMCC? Did you feel that you had enough guidance on doing secondary research or not?
5. Please rank the assignments, which you felt were most useful and helped to really open your eyes and learn the most about the entrepreneurial process? Rank the one that you felt was the most useful as 7, the next as 6 and so on. If you did not complete a particular assignment indicate N/A against it.
